Softball Recap: Fitch Has No Trouble Against Westerly

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Fitch ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They put the hurt on the Westerly Bulldogs with a sharp 12-6 victory. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.

Hailey Merrill spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits.

On the hitting side, Fitch got a massive performance out of Jaedyn Steffens, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Steffens also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Katie MacPherson, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Fitch now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Westerly, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-3.

Coming up, Fitch will host Cranston West at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Westerly, they will head out on the road to take on Norwich Free Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
