Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Needville). They put the hurt on the Sweeny Bulldogs with a sharp 68-47 win on Tuesday. The score was all tied up 25-25 at the break, but the Bluejays were the better team in the second half.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Needville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaydon Ortiz, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 19 points and five rebounds. That's the most points Ortiz has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bohdan Zeitz, who had 15 points along with eight boards and three blocks.
Needville was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sweeny only posted seven assists.
Despite the loss, Sweeny had strong showings from Clinton King -Varner, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds, and Jacory Maisonet, who went 5-for-11 en route to 15 points and three steals. Maisonet continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played.
Needville's record is now 10-17. As for Sweeny, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 3-25 record this season.
As of now, neither Needville nor Sweeny have any future games scheduled.
