The Bishop Stang Spartans will face off against the Arlington Catholic Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Arlington Catholic will be up against a hot Bishop Stang squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Spartans blew past Cardinal Spellman 18-4 on Monday. The Spartans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Devin Lord looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bishop Stang got a massive performance out of Brock Winslow, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Winslow a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tommy Guenette, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Bishop Stang always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cardinal Spellman only posted an OBP of .367.
Meanwhile, Arlington Catholic put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Monday. They didn't even let Bishop Fenwick on the board, marking the Cougars' second-straight 10-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Crusaders: they've now won five in a row.
Matt Toland was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Arlington Catholic is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. Toland was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Arlington Catholic let John Recinito and Coleman ONeill run wild. Recinito went 2-for-3 with three runs, while ONeill got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI.
Arlington Catholic pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Bishop Stang, their win bumped their record up to 11-1.
Bishop Stang beat Arlington Catholic 6-2 in their previous meeting on April 4th. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
