The Thomaston Bears will square off against the Nonnewaug Chiefs at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for Thomaston: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Nonnewaug has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.
Thomaston came out on top against Northwestern Regional on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Bears were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Highlanders.

Madison Decker made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabby Theriault, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Miranda Embelton was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Nonnewaug put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Housatonic. The Chiefs blew past the Mountaineers 24-0. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Thomaston, Nonnewaug also got a great game from a two-way player: Scarlett Ivey. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Ivey was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Nonnewaug let Gianna DeLorenzo and Elizabeth Boisits run wild. DeLorenzo fired off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-3, while Boisits went 2-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. With that strong performance, DeLorenzo is now averaging an impressive 3.1 RBI per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Gia Savarese, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Nonnewaug was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .433 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Nonnewaug's victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Thomaston, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Thomaston hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Nonnewaug struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Thomaston might still be hurting after the 10-2 loss they got from Nonnewaug in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Bears have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
