If the Bel Air Highlanders were riding high off their 54-0 takedown of the Horizon Scorpions last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Bel Air's tough 42-17 loss to Del Valle on Friday might stick with them for a while. Bel Air gained 217 more yards on the day, but it was Del Valle that made the best of use of them.
When it comes to explaining why Bel Air lost, one person who can't be blamed is Noah Moreno. Despite the final result, he threw for 337 yards and two touchdowns. Moreno has been hot recently, having posted 300 or more passing yards the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mark Mukiibi, who picked up 181 receiving yards.
Del Valle was led to victory by Andres Mei and Juan Archuleta. Mei picked up 148 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Archuleta rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry.
Bel Air's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Del Valle, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bel Air will take on Amarillo at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Amarillo is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Del Valle, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Tascosa at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Tascosa is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
