Cotulla is 1-8-1 against the Javelinas since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cotulla Cowboys will be playing at home against the Crystal City Javelinas at 7:30 p.m. Cotulla will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1555th, while the Javelinas are ranked 686th).
Cotulla's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They fell 59-49 to Natalia. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cotulla in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now lost three in a row.
Meanwhile, Crystal City scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by Hondo at home to the tune of 101-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Crystal City found their leader in underclassman Christopher Mena, who scored 22 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Mata, who scored 12 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.
Cotulla has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-18 record this season. As for Crystal City, they pushed their record up to 18-12 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Cotulla took a serious blow against the Javelinas in their previous matchup back in January, falling 100-57. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Cotulla was down 52-23.
