After flying high against the Taylorsville Warriors last Tuesday, the Cyprus Pirates came back down to earth. Cyprus took a hard 68-49 fall against Juan Diego Catholic on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Cyprus of the 58-56 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Despite the defeat, Cyprus saw an underclassman step up: Koli Fosita scored 24 points along with two steals. Fosita is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. Stone Tia was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Luke Meyer was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds for Juan Diego Catholic. Another player making a difference was Caden Fenger, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Cyprus' loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Juan Diego Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cyprus will take on Granger at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Cyprus is ranked 100th, while Granger is ranked 125th). As for Juan Diego Catholic, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Hunter at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Hunter knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Juan Diego Catholic likes a good challenge.
