Chicago Christian has gone 8-2 against St. Edward recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Knights will challenge the Green Wave at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Chicago Christian has four straight victories, St. Edward has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Chicago Christian made easy work of South Bend Riley and carried off a 12-2 win. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Michael Millaney was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Chicago Christian got a massive performance out of Austin Assink, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Assink has posted over his last 11 matchups. Rafe Slager was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Chicago Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, St. Edward came up short against Harvest Christian Academy on Friday and fell 5-2.
St. Edward saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Freeman, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Parker Petruczenko also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
St. Edward's defeat dropped their record down to 1-23. As for Chicago Christian, their record is now 19-9.
St. Edward's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Chicago Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for St. Edward, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Chicago Christian keep running through batters, or will the Green Wave buck the trend?
Chicago Christian took their victory against St. Edward when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 19-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
