Softball Game Preview: Emmett Huskies vs. Caldwell Cougars

Emmett is 9-1 against Caldwell since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Huskies are taking a road trip to face off against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Emmett has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Emmett lost 13-3 to Vallivue on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Huskies have suffered against the Falcons since May 10, 2022.

Avery Reynolds made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

Meanwhile, Caldwell came up short against Bishop Kelly on Tuesday, falling 10-3. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Payton Garcia was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Caldwell's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Emmett, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Emmett has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Caldwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Emmett was able to grind out a solid win over Caldwell when the teams last played last Tuesday, winning 8-3. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
