Shawnee is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will square off against the Van Wert Cougars at 5:30 p.m. Shawnee is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
On Monday, Shawnee made easy work of Crestview and carried off a 14-1 victory. The matchup marked the Indians' most dominant win of the season so far.
Shawnee let Kacie Carroll and Lyla Rosas run wild. Carroll went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Rosas went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Lily Roe, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Shawnee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2025.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Van Wert duked it out with Parkway last Monday. The Cougars lost 11-1 to the Panthers. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost seven in a row.
Van Wert saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haley Dunlap, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. Layla Sudduth also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Van Wert's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Shawnee, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Van Wert's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Shawnee has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Van Wert, though, as they've been averaging 11.5 hits. Given Shawnee's sizable advantage in that area, the Cougars will need to find a way to close that gap.
Shawnee came out on top in a nail-biter against Van Wert in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, sneaking past 11-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
