In what's become a running theme this season, the Southside Seahawks gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They put the hurt on Lejeune with a sharp 42-22 victory. The win was some much needed relief for Southside as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Leading Southside to victory were Tamya Smith and I'Kiriyah Minor. Smith scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Minor scored 16 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Indiah Moore, who scored six points along with two steals.
Shyanne Bryant and Scarlett McLean certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Bryant scored nine points, while McLean scored nine points along with two steals. McLean is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Lejeune struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Southside pulled down 17 offensive rebounds.
Southside's win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Lejeune, they dropped their record down to 2-13 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Southside will take on Jones at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lejeune, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Northside - Pinetown at 5:00 p.m. Northside - Pinetown presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lejeune in North Carolina (Northside - Pinetown is ranked 178th, while Lejeune is ranked 551st).
