Carlsbad and Rancho Buena Vista are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Lancers will be playing at home against the Longhorns at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Carlsbad's offense. They fell 5-0 to La Costa Canyon on Tuesday. The Lancers' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.
Sofia Tillis was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits.
On the hitting side, Carlsbad saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katelyn Hemerick, who went 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple marked the first that Hemerick has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Rancho Buena Vista entered their match against Torrey Pines on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Longhorns wound up with the same score they had in their last game (2-1), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Allison Keusch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Carlsbad's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Rancho Buena Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.
Rancho Buena Vista's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Carlsbad hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. It's a different story for Rancho Buena Vista, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Carlsbad's hitters?
Carlsbad came out on top in a nail-biter against Rancho Buena Vista in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Lancers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Longhorns turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
