The Kathleen Red Devils will square off against the Wekiva Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Kathleen can now relate to. They took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs on Friday. Kathleen found out winning isn't easy when you make five fewer threes than your opponent.
Kathleen might have lost, but man, Amaya Shaw was a machine: she dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 52.5% of Kathleen's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dariasia Pitts, who scored six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Wekiva's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Horizon by a score of 46-44. Wekiva has not had much luck with Horizon recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Tierra Coleman and Sienna Astorino. Astorino had a solid game and scored ten points along with five steals. Meanwhile, Coleman was balling out in the loss, scoring 23 points along with six rebounds.
Kathleen's loss dropped their record down to 18-8. As for Wekiva, their loss dropped their record down to 16-10.
Wednesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Kathleen have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 40.8% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Wekiva struggles in that department as they've made 47.6% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
