Whitney Young is a perfect 7-0 against Saint Ignatius College Prep since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Dolphins will take on the Wolfpack at 4:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Tuesday.
Whitney Young will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Lincoln Park on Monday. The Dolphins never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. The Dolphins' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Sarah Alvarez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2025. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Whitney Young let Itzel Jaime and Mara Finnigan run wild. Jaime went 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Finnigan went 1-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most doubles Jaime has posted since back in March of 2025. Natalie Nieves was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Whitney Young kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln Park only managed one.
Meanwhile, Saint Ignatius College Prep came tearing into Monday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over the Eagles. The result was nothing new for the Wolfpack, who have now won three games by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Tova Chung was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Giovanna Sanfratello, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Molly Milanowski, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Whitney Young's record now sits at 2-3. As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, their record is now 7-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Whitney Young hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Saint Ignatius College Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Whitney Young skirted past Saint Ignatius College Prep 5-3 when the teams last played back in March of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dolphins since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
