The Northfield Norsemen will head out to take on the Wabash Apaches at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday. Northfield is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Northfield is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Logansport: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Northfield blew Logansport out of the water with a 53-24 final score. The Norsemen have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 26 points or more this season.
Northfield's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elli Baker, who posted 13 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Callie Hoffman, who earned nine points and eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wabash came up short against Oak Hill on Wednesday and fell 40-29. The match marked the Apaches' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Loss or not, Wabash got some senior leadership from Anna Daughtry and Janika Stumbo. Daughtry had nine points, while Stumbo posted six points and five rebounds. Daughtry is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Northfield has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Wabash, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Northfield has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Wabash struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Northfield was able to grind out a solid victory over Wabash in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 55-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Northfield since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
