Jasper is a perfect 5-0 against Princeton since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Wildcats will take on the Tigers at 11:00 a.m. Jasper is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Jasper was able to grind out a solid win over Evansville North, taking the game 7-4.
Bryn Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Olivia Young was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Laney Werner was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Princeton). They walked away with a 20-16 victory over Forest Park on Thursday. The Tigers have beaten the Rangers the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rangers has come to flipping the script.
The team relied heavily on Kamryn Elliott, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, six runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Kassidy Whitehead, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Princeton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Jasper's win bumped their record up to 15-10-1. As for Princeton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-15.
Princeton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jasper has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Princeton, though, as they've been averaging 10.2 hits. Given Jasper's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Jasper beat Princeton 5-2 when the teams last played back in March. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
