Softball Recap: Central Catholic Snags 16th Victory in Last 17 Games

Central Catholic's tournament run continued when they took on Vacaville on Saturday. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over the Bulldogs. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 games by six runs or more this season.

Central Catholic got a great performance from Stephanie Garcia as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Garcia has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Samantha Nichols was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Ceriah Fitzhugh was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Central Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .658. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vacaville only posted an OBP of .440.

Central Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Vacaville, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.

Central Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 11-3 victory against Patterson on the 29th. As for Vacaville, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 5-1 win against Wood on the 30th.
