Caliche has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Merino Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Caliche will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Merino is ranked fifth).
Last Friday, Caliche ended up a good deal behind Sedgwick County and lost 59-41.
Caliche's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ava Hernandez, who scored 14 points, and Karsyn Huss who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Merino put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Genoa-Hugo/Karval 55-18 on the road. Merino has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 22 points or more this season.
Caliche's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Merino, their victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0.
Caliche was taken down by Merino 68-25 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Caliche was down 42-12.
