Basketball Recap: Immanuel Christian Takes a Loss

Immanuel Christian was the 52-17 winner over Mesilla Valley Christian School when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Immanuel Christian Warriors were dealt a 70-29 defeat at the hands of the Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 1388th in Texas, while the SonBlazers are ranked 62nd in New Mexico).

Immanuel Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Kezia Rayon and Aubrie Donahue. Rayon almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds, while Donahue posted ten points. Those nine boards gave Rayon a new career-high. Izzy Alarcon also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Mesilla Valley Christian School's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Katey Black, who had 24 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Nevaeh Benjamin was another key player, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 14 boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Immanuel Christian and nudges their season record down to 10-10. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.

Immanuel Christian has already played their next match, a 40-38 victory against Jesus Chapel on the 28th. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-41 win against Cloudcroft on the 28th.
