The Monterey Plainsmen can now show off 17 landslide victories after their most recent game on Tuesday. They really took it to Cooper for the full four quarters, racking up a 102-35 victory on the road. Monterey's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Monterey was led to victory by Ambrosia Cole and Aaliyah Chavez. Cole scored 34 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Chavez dropped a triple-double on 39 points, 19 rebounds, and 14 assists. Chavez is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 22 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Luna, who scored seven points.
The victory was the 21st in a row for Monterey, bringing their record for this year to 28-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.2 points per game. As for Cooper, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-18 record this season.
Coincidentally, Monterey and the Cougars will both be playing the Westerners the next time they take the court. Cooper will head out to face Lubbock at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Monterey will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
