Basketball Recap: Red Mountain Now 8-1 over Last Nine Games

Red Mountain hadn't done well against Dobson recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Red Mountain Mountain Lions strolled past the Dobson Mustangs with points to spare, taking the game 52-34. Given the Mountain Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Mustangs are ranked 138th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Red Mountain's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Macy Johnson, who posted 14 points and five rebounds. Johnson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Korey Roberts was another key player, going 5 for 9 en route to 10 points along with six assists and five boards.

Red Mountain was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dobson only posted eight assists.

Dobson's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aliana Garcia, who earned eight points and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Garcia a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Lana Shirley, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 14 points and four steals.

Red Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.7 points per game. As for Dobson, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-13.

Red Mountain has already played their next game, a 55-51 victory against Mountain View on the 23rd. Dobson has also already played their next contest (against Westwood), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
