Banks County is 0-1 against Athens Academy since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Banks County Leopards will be playing at home against the Athens Academy Spartans at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Banks County's recent rough patch got a bit rougher two weeks ago after their third straight loss. They suffered a tough 27-7 loss at the hands of Union County. The game was over by the end of the first half, with no points scored by either team from that point forward.
Despite the loss, Banks County got a solid performance out of Aucy Jacobs, who rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.6 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Athens Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 52-28 defeat at the hands of Fellowship Christian. The match was a 21-21 toss-up at halftime, but Athens Academy was blown out by Fellowship Christian in the second.
Jamari Welch put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 200 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.0 yards per carry. Welch's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Wingfield, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown.
The losses dropped both teams to an identical 4-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Banks County has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 172.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Athens Academy struggles in that department as they've been even better at 222.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Banks County was dealt a bruising 70-13 defeat at the hands of Athens Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Banks County have more luck at home instead of on the road?
