The Armwood Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Blake Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Armwood has given up an average of 14 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Armwood is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Bloomingdale on Monday. They came up short against the Bulls, falling 19-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Hawks in their meetings with the Bulls: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Blake). They were the clear victors by an 18-7 margin over Middleton on Tuesday. Considering the Yellow Jackets have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
C Hobbs made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up six earned runs off only two hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Blake got a massive performance out of J Feliciano, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Feliciano a new career-high. Z Newton was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
Blake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Armwood's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Blake, their record is now 5-7.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Armwood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .520. However, it's not like Blake struggles in that department as they've averaged .477. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Armwood might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Blake when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
