The Hempstead Bobcats suffered their biggest defeat since November 16, 2023 on Friday. They were beaten by East Bernard 65-21. While losing is never fun, Hempstead can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1367th, while East Bernard is ranked 645th).
East Bernard's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashlynn Lemos, who scored 18 points along with five assists and three steals. Lemos is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Malaya Thomas, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Hempstead's defeat dropped their record down to 2-18. As for East Bernard, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hempstead on the road again on Friday and play against Van Vleck at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th. As for East Bernard, they will face off against Hitchcock at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hitchcock is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
