Bishop Verot came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Community School of Naples 61-35. Given Bishop Verot's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Community School of Naples is ranked 235th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bishop Verot got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jerry Ashley out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Ashley hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 12 straight games. Gavin Williams was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with three steals.
First Baptist Academy posted their biggest win since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 65-32 victory over Neumann. That's two games straight that First Baptist Academy has won by exactly 33 points.
Bishop Verot's record now sits at 15-3. As for First Baptist Academy, they pushed their record up to 12-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Bishop Verot was taken down by First Baptist Academy 68-20 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Bishop Verot avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
