Woods Cross is 8-1 against Northridge since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Wildcats will head out to take on the Knights at 3:00 p.m. Woods Cross is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Woods Cross came up short against Viewmont and fell 7-3. The Wildcats have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
Kason Lythgoe was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Northridge hadn't done well against Box Elder recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Knights blew past the Bees 16-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Knights have posted against the Bees since May 11, 2022.
Kam Shirreffs and Jon Olsen made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Shirreffs didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Olsen didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. At the plate, Shirreffs went 4-for-7 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Olsen got on base in four of his eight plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Isaac Anderson was incredible, getting on base in five of his seven plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Boston Wright was another key player, getting on base in five of his eight plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
The win made it two in a row for Northridge and bumps their season record up to 14-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Woods Cross, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Woods Cross hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Northridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Woods Cross beat Northridge 5-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
