If The Judson Rockets were feeling good off their 48-16 takedown of the San Marcos Rattlers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Judson was outmatched by Steele on the road and fell 52-14. While losing is never fun, Judson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 224th, while Steele is ranked 28th).
When it comes to explaining why Judson lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Demo Mcgarity. Despite the final result, he picked up 149 receiving yards and a touchdown. Mcgarity was no stranger to the big play, connecting with a big catch that went for 67 yards.
Steele was led to victory by Jalen Cooper and Chad Warner. Cooper picked up 145 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while Warner threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes. Steele also got a significant boost from Jonathan Hatton jr., who ran away from the competition to the tune of 127 yards.
Another reason for the win was Steele's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Abdon Mata and his two sacks.
Judson's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Steele, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Judson will look to defend their home field on Thursday against New Braunfels at 7:00 p.m. New Braunfels has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 115 points over their last three contests. As for Steele, they will head out on the road to face off against Clemens at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
