The Jay Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Harlan Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Jay has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Even though Holmes scored an imposing 81 points on Wednesday, Jay still came out on top. Jay managed a 85-81 victory over the Huskies. Given Jay's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while the Huskies are ranked 448th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jay got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Elijah Baldwin out in front who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Baldwin hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 16 straight games. Another player making a difference was Jarrius Jackson jr, who scored 19 points.
Meanwhile, even though Holmes scored an imposing 58 points on Saturday, Harlan still came out on top. Harlan took down the Huskies 74-58. The win made it back-to-back wins for Harlan.
Harlan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Justin Nelson led the charge by scoring 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nelson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Mangum, who scored 17 points.
Jay is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. As for Harlan, their win bumped their record up to 19-10.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Jay hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 71 points per game. However, it's not like Harlan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 65 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Jay strolled past the Hawks in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 91-77. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jay since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
