Glenbrook North has gone 9-1 against Maine East recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Spartans will be playing at home against the Blue Demons at 4:45 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Maine East will be up against a hot Glenbrook North team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went the Spartans' way against New Trier on Thursday as they made off with a 10-2 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Spartans considering their two-run performance the match before.
Meanwhile, Maine East had to endure a 14-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 16-7 margin over Northtown on Monday. The Blue Demons' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last nine games.
Emma Asien made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Maine East got a massive performance out of Ellie Miller, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Miller a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Paulina Correa, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Maine East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Glenbrook North pushed their record up to 17-12 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Maine East, their victory bumped their record up to 3-15.
Glenbrook North beat Maine East 10-7 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Blue Demons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
