3A Region 6 recap September 10, 2013
Velma Jackson's Emanuel Ross rumbled for the longest rushing play in 3A Region 6 this season in his game against Yazoo County last week. Ross scampered for 95 yards on the play and finished with 162 on the day as his team beat the Panthers.
Devin Perry and Lavontae Coleman provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Yazoo County. The longest such play in the league this season, the connection resulted in 83 yards.
Coleman was the best wideout in the league this week as Velma Jackson bested Bernard Euell's team. Coleman tallied 2 receptions for 97 yards.
Bennie Kirkland put up the best numbers through the air as St. Andrews Episcopal topped Pisgah. He finished with 6 completions for 136 yards and 2 touchdowns. Kirkland's favorite target this week was Connor Woodall, who caught 2 passes for 75 yards.
Joseph Satcher was the most successful running back in 3A Region 6 this week. In 10 carries, he ran for 174 yards as McLaurin defeated the Panthers. Marchelos Chase also contributed to the rushing game with 88 yards on the ground.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Morton's Deyton Lingle and Devonta Jones have proven to be a lethal combination. Lingle has thrown for 517 yards this season, while Jones has 15 catches for 235 yards. Ross from the Falcons leads the league in rushing with 412 yards.
Velma Jackson moved up to 97 from 145 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Falcons climbed the ranks as a result of besting Yazoo County 30-2.
