The Ennis Mustangs will head out to square off against the Troy Trojans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Troy took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Ennis, who comes in off a win.
Ennis will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Lincoln County on Friday. The Mustangs blew past the Lions 15-5. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won three in a row.
The team relied heavily on Jaycee Funke, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those RBI were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruby Boggus, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Ennis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Troy scored first but ultimately less than Three Forks in their contest on Friday. They fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 12-11. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Troy got a big performance out of Autumn Fisher, who went 2-for-4 with one home run. Ellie Borgmann was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Troy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Ennis, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ennis has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Troy struggles in that department as they've averaged .480. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
