North Allegheny has gone 9-1 against Butler recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Golden Tornado at 3:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
North Allegheny gave up the first runs last Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They skirted past Plum 7-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
The team relied heavily on JJ Mancuso, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Simons, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Butler is still undefeated this season after their contest against North Hills on Thursday, but North Hills came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Golden Tornado came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Indians. While the Golden Tornado didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Kyle Casteel tossed a big game, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, Regan Peth was incredible, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tanner Pry, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Butler pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for North Allegheny, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. North Allegheny has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Butler struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
North Allegheny was able to grind out a solid win over Butler in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-1. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Golden Tornado have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
