Bishop McGuinness (Kernersville, N.C.) lost to
East Surry (Pilot Mountain, N.C.), 20-7.
The two teams were tied at seven heading into halftime. The Cardinals took the lead for good on a kick return touchdown by
Jeremy Gilley with 11:00 remaining in the third quarter.
Jon Dickenson was the top performer for East Surry. The junior quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
The Villains' lone touchdown came on a run in the first quarter.
ES entered the contest giving up 19.2 points per game this year. The Pilot Mountain school held firm on the defensive front, and kept Bishop McGuinness well below the 32.2 points it had been averaging per game.
A 34-6 East Surry victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The victory was a step in the right direction for East Surry, which was coming off a 12-8 defeat at the hands of West Stokes in its previous game.
In a 2A/1A Northwest game next week Bishop McGuinness (4-3) takes on Surry Central, and East Surry (4-3) will go up against South Stokes also in a 2A/1A Northwest game.
