Weslaco took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Nixon Mustangs with a sharp 3-0 victory. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.
The victory didn't come easy: Nixon scored at least 19 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-23, 25-23.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Weslaco to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sati Alonzo, who had five digs and five aces. That's the most aces Alonzo has posted since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Desiree Gonzalez, who had 14 digs and two aces.
They weren't the only good server: Weslaco was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nixon only served five aces.
Looking ahead, Weslaco will be taking part in a tournament against Rowe at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Nixon, they will square off against Mission at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The contest will give the Mustangs their first taste of in-conference action this season.
