Given Riverside-Durham's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while East Chapel Hill is ranked 338th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riverside-Durham's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Corey Hairston Jr., who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Mekhi Sneed was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals and three blocks.
East Chapel Hill lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Isaiah Styron, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Jacob Bryan, who scored five points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Riverside-Durham's victory bumped their record up to 12-6. As for East Chapel Hill, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverside-Durham will square off against Northern Durham at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Northern Durham and Riverside-Durham are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. East Chapel Hill won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Cedar Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Cedar Ridge is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
