After flying high against the Belfast Lions last Saturday, the Morse Shipbuilders came back down to earth. Morse fell 64-53 to the Mustangs on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Morse of the 63-35 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Morse lost, one person who can't be blamed is Calin Gould. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Gould also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Trace McFarland, who scored 13 points.
Morse's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Mount View, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.
Morse will head out on the road to take on the Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Maine (Maine Central Institute is ranked 88th, while the Shipbuilders are ranked 89th). As for Mount View, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on January 31st.
