Francis Parker is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Julian just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 36-20 bruising from the Eagles. The Lancers were right on the edge of victory: they outscored the Eagles in the fourth quarter 8-0.
Although Francis Parker took the loss, they still got scores from Boone Russell, Jet Pierce, and Demetrius Walcott II.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Borrego Springs). They breezed past West Shores to the tune of 75-30 on Thursday. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 48-14.
Borrego Springs' win came from a few key players Francis Parker will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cameron Campbell, who rushed for 83 yards and one TD. An impressive showing, but he really ramped things up playing D: he picked up two sacks, forced one fumble, and made nine total tackles. Another player making a difference was Travis Asche, who rushed for 54 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Borrego Springs didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Preston Sexton and Josef Rocha. Borrego Springs received some extra help from Maurico Rodriguez, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Borrego Springs, adding 21 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Rocha, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Borrego Springs' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 9.07 yards per carry in those games compared to only 2.63 in the others. As for Francis Parker, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
