Cardinal Newman took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Porter-Gaud on Thursday. It was the first time this season that Cardinal Newman let down their fans at home.
Cardinal Newman's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Duncan Skehan, who threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.3 yards per attempt. Another player making a difference was Cortez Lane, who gained 99 total yards and three touchdowns.
Jammall Fludd went supernova for Porter-Gaud, rushing for 225 yards and four touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolen Shuman, who rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown.
Cardinal Newman's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Porter-Gaud, their win bumped their record up to an identical 8-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cardinal Newman will take on Augusta Christian at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. Augusta Christian and Cardinal Newman are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. As for Porter-Gaud, they will look to defend their home field on October 27th against First Baptist School at 7:30 p.m. First Baptist School is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
