The Lawrence Chesty Lions will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Perry-Lecompton Kaws at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Chesty Lions fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Saturday's season opener. They had just enough and edged out Emporia 2-0.
Not much got past Keira Norris, who gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks to keep Emporia off the board.
On the hitting side, Zoey Barber was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Perry-Lecompton beat Royal Valley 6-2 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Kaws.
Olivia Hart made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Macie Corcoran and Jolie Corcoran did most of the damage at the plate: Macie went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Jolie went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Perry-Lecompton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Lawrence came out on top in a nail-biter against Perry-Lecompton when the teams last played back in May of 2025, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chesty Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
