Karly Van Metre made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Hannah Fisher and Brianna Guerrero did most of the damage at the plate: Fisher went a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, two triples, and two stolen bases, while Guerrero went 3-for-4 with five runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Guerrero has posted since back in March of 2025. Kyla Carpio was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Phoenix Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 17 runs the game before, Madison Highland Prep was a bit more limited in their game on Monday. They came up short against Camp Verde, falling 21-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Heat in their meetings with the Cowboys: they've now lost three in a row.
Madison Highland Prep saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noelle Hill, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Erianie Roman also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Madison Highland Prep's loss dropped their record down to 2-5-1. As for Phoenix Christian, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
Madison Highland Prep's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Phoenix Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Madison Highland Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 2.9 strikeouts. Will Phoenix Christian keep running through batters, or will the Heat buck the trend?
