The Lewis Cass Kings waltzed into their match Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They pulled ahead with a 49-48 photo finish over Whitko.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lewis Cass to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kinsey Mennen, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Aftin Griffin, who scored 15 points along with six steals.
Whitko's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayma Stonebraker, who scored 13 points along with five steals. The match was Stonebraker's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Reese Stonebraker, who scored ten points.
Lewis Cass pushed their record up to 10-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points per game. As for Whitko, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3.
Lewis Cass will take on Western Boone in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at. Hopefully Western Boone focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Friday. As for Whitko, they will head out on the road to face off against Prairie Heights at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
