The Skyline Thunderbirds pushed their score all the way to 65 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 66-65 to Ellinwood. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Thursday (56), Skyline still had to take the loss.
Ellinwood was led to victory by Landon Simpson and Mason Moore. Simpson went 8 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 1 assists, while Moore scored 23 points along with 5 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Simpson has scored at least 25% of Ellinwood's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alek Brack, who scored 6 points along with 7 assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Skyline and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Ellinwood, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Skyline's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Kinsley. Kinsley is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Ellinwood, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Ell-Saline at 12:00 p.m. Ell-Saline has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 188 points over their last three matches.
