The Lafayette Christian Cougars waltzed into their contest on Thursday with three straight wins but they left with four. They managed a 62-58 win over Holy Ground Baptist Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Bruno Tellez was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 11 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Zapata, who scored 14 points.
Lafayette Christian's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.0 points per game. As for Holy Ground Baptist Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lafayette Christian won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Praise Academy at 8:00 p.m. on January 19th. Holy Ground Baptist Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Trinity Christian School of Griffin at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. One thing working in Trinity Christian School of Griffin's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 matchups.
