The Ocean City Raiders will face off against the Woodstown Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ocean City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Ocean City didn't have quite enough to beat Delran and fell 4-3.
Ocean City saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke Douglas, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Woodstown waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Warriors. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Leah Clark made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.
In other batting news, Kendall Young and Elizabeth Wygand did most of the damage at the plate: Young went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Wygand went 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Young a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hannah Hitchner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Woodstown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wildwood only posted an OBP of .143.
Woodstown's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-7. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ocean City, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-8 record this season.
Both Ocean City and Woodstown just can't seem to miss. The Raiders have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Woodstown struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ocean City was able to grind out a solid victory over Woodstown when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 8-5. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Wolverines have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
