Saugus is a perfect 8-0 against Castaic since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Centurions will face off against the Coyotes at 3:15 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Saugus is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Harvard-Westlake with a sharp 12-1 win on Tuesday. The Centurions not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 28th (when they won 11-0).
Taliya Mata looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Amelia Johnson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Savanna Smith was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Saugus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
While Castaic didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They never let Chatsworth get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Friday. Considering the Coyotes have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Tatum McAfee made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 21 over seven innings pitched. McAfee was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
McAfee wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emma French, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
The win made it two in a row for Castaic and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Saugus, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Saugus got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Castaic by a conclusive 16-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Centurions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
