Bishop Moore is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will welcome the Mount Dora Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Bishop Moore: 4, Mount Dora: 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Bishop Moore lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Montverde Academy, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's matchup. Bishop Moore put the hurt on Montverde Academy with a sharp 18-4 win on Tuesday. Considering the Hornets have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Tony Castro and JT Costello dominated on the mound. Castro pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Costello struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Bishop Moore got a massive performance out of Jesiah Woodside, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Woodside has posted since back in April of 2024. Will Kane was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Bishop Moore always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Mount Dora hadn't done well against Eustis recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Mount Dora walked away with a 6-2 victory over Eustis. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hurricanes.
Jacob James spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Mount Dora is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Mount Dora's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brady Smith, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Bishop Moore pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Mount Dora, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Mount Dora's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bishop Moore has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .516. It's a different story for Mount Dora, though, as they've only averaged .323. Will they be able to contain Bishop Moore's hitters?
Bishop Moore took their victory against Mount Dora in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-4. Does Bishop Moore have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mount Dora turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
