Softball Recap: Maypearl Victorious

Maypearl took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Stephenville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Yellow Jackets/Honeybees on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Isabella Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Kyla Teague was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs. Allie Salas also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Maypearl's record is now 10-6-1. As for Stephenville, they moved to 9-9-1 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Maypearl will host Rice at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season. As for Stephenville, they will face off against Lipan at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
