Eli Simonton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 13 Ks. He has become a key player for Sissonville: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three hits, but 2-3 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Sissonville's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Isiah Hicks, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Jacob Coleman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Sissonville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Winfield faced Scott in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Generals had just enough and edged out the Skyhawks 7-5. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 29, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Brody Ilderton and Ean Cox were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Ilderton pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Cox pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ilderton has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Ilderton went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, while Cox scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Winfield's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Sissonville, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
Sissonville came up short against Winfield when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 3-0. Will the Indians have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
