Sierra Vista is a perfect 3-0 against Doral Academy Red Rock since February of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Mountain Lions will challenge the Dragons at 3:30 p.m. Sierra Vista has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Monday, Sierra Vista came up short against Basic and fell 11-8. The Mountain Lions haven't had much luck with the Wolves recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Zoe Logan was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Penelope Spann was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Doral Academy Red Rock had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Bengals. Considering the Dragons have won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
EmmaLynn Hussey was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kalea Copenhefer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabriella Spinner, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Doral Academy Red Rock's record now sits at 15-3. As for Sierra Vista, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Everything went Sierra Vista's way against Doral Academy Red Rock when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Sierra Vista made off with a 15-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mountain Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
