The Shiprock Chieftains will be playing at home against the Piedra Vista Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Shiprock has three straight victories, Piedra Vista has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Saturday, Shiprock took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 80-44 victory over Whitehorse. 80 seems to be a good number for Shiprock as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Shiprock had a senior duo take command as Donte Nelson scored 22 points and Nevaughn Begay scored 23 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Begay has scored at least 25% of Shiprock's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Keith, who scored 10 points.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought match, but Piedra Vista had to settle for a 55-53 defeat against Pueblo East on Saturday.
Their wins bumped Shiprock to 3-0 and Whitehorse to 1-2.
Shiprock was able to grind out a solid win over Piedra Vista in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, winning 50-43. Will Shiprock repeat their success, or does Piedra Vista have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
